Women of Wilsall dedicate memorial bench

The Women of Wilsall had a metal bench made in memory of Mitzi D’Ewart Richards with her signature in metal on it. The bench was given to the Shields Valley High School where she taught for many years before dying of cancer last spring.

Cheryl Robinson spoke at the dedication of the bench Monday afternoon at the high school in Clyde Park. Among those attending the dedication were Mitzi’s mother Pearl D’Ewart and Mitzi’s children Christen Loendorf, Frank Vincent and Trisha Ayers Weiss.

Memorials given to the Clyde Park Community Scholarship Fund are:

For Mitzi Richards from the Shields Valley class of 2017;

For Fred Wilson from Dan and Linda Wertz; and other memorials in memory of Joyce Bailey and Betty Johnson.


• A 90th  birthday celebration for Gerry Lu Isbell is scheduled for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Shields Valley Senior Center on Highway 89 in Wilsall.

• The Shields Valley and Pine Creek United Methodist Churches will hold a joint worship service followed by a potluck supper at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, at the church in Clyde Park. All members and friends are welcome.

• The Shields Valley Book Club meets at 1:30 p.m. Monday,  Sept. 18,  at the Shields River Lutheran Church in Wilsall. The book being discussed this month is “LaRose” by Louise Erdrich.

• The Shields Valley Senior Citizens potluck dinner starts at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at the senior center in Wilsall. There will be readings and music.


At the Shields Valley Homecoming Parade the senior class won first place with a bury the eagles float. The sophomore class won second place with a “Roast the Eagles” theme and the junior class won third with a drown the eagles theme.

Senior Marissa Marshall was crowned Homecoming Queen and junior Tanner Lykins was crowned king at the Friday evening football game. Other queen candidates were senior Trinity Boyd and juniors Juslin Bailey and Jenna Henson. King candidates were seniors Blake Myrstol and Patrick Blair and junior Bill Heath.


The Clyde Park Bridge Club met Sept. 6 at Clyde Park Tavern and Cafe. with Ken DeBoer as host. Prize winners were Kathy DeBoer, high; and  Penny Arnold, bingo.

Wilsall Women’s Pinochle Club met Monday afternoon at the Shields Valley Senior Center. Prize winners were Marie Smith, high; Marge Briggs , low; and Jean Landers, traveling.

Winners of the Sept. 12 Senior Citizens card party were Jean Landers, first; Linda Wilson, second; Marge Briggs, low; and Marie Smith, traveling.

School Schedule

• Sept. 14: The FFA District Leadership meeting is in Livingston at 5 p.m. The junior high volleyball teams play Gardiner in Clyde Park starting at 4:15 p.m.

• Sept. 15: The junior high and high school volleyball teams play White Sulphur Springs in Clyde Park starting at 3 p.m.

• Sept. 16: The junior high and highs football teams play at Custer at 4 p.m.  and 7 p.m., respectively. The high school volleyball team plays in the Sheridan Tournament at 9:30 a.m.

• Sept. 19: The junior high and high school volleyball teams play Harlowton. The junior high games start at 4:15 p.m. in Wilsall and the high school games start at 5 p.m. in Clyde Park.

• Sept. 21: The junior high volleyball teams play in Big Timber starting at 4:15 p.m.
