SHIELDS VALLEY NEWS: Everything set for Ranch Rodeo this weekend

Remember — the 17th annual Wilsall Ranch Rodeo is this weekend, Aug. 11-12. Notice that it is Saturday and Sunday this year.

The tri-tip steak dinner for $15 starts at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the shelter at the Rodeo Grounds in Wilsall. There will be auctioning of the teams at 7 p.m. and a dance following with live music.

Rodeo events include Calf Branding, Team Doctoring, Penning, Wild Cow Milking and Sorting will be Sunday at the Wilsall Rodeo Grounds. The Ranch Horse Competition is at 11 a.m. and Kids Dummy Roping starts at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Getting kids ready for school

Make sure your child is ready for the school year. Call 578-2222 to schedule an annual well-child visit and sports physical at Shields Valley Clinic.

Annual well-child visits are covered by most insurance plans and include paperwork for sports physicals and immunization updates.

Sports physicals are $87 out of pocket, if not covered by insurance.

Livingston HealthCare Shields Valley Clinic is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Booster Club Kickoff

The Shields Valley Booster Club Kickoff Social starts at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at the gym in Clyde Park.

Booster Club memberships are Senior Citizens, $20; families, $50; and businesses, $75. Booster Club sportswear will be for sale that evening and also at Western Drug Too in Clyde Park.

The mandatory preseason all sports meeting for junior high and high school athletes and their parents is at 7 p.m. Aug. 9 in the Clyde Park gym.

Farmers Market

The Shields Valley Farmer’s Market starts at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at Holliday Park in Clyde Park.

Special music for the evening is Paul Lee Kupter, singer and songwriter of folk and blues. Melissa O’Hair of MTPLB Catering is back for dinner of Uffdah Taco, beef and bean with all the fixin’s.

Bring a cooler, as Michael is bringing his truck full of frozen fish that he personally caught wild in Alaska.

And as always, there are many other vendors, a terrific playground and room for the kids to run.

The Bracketteers 4-H Club will be having a bake sale. This will be the last visit of the season for Michael’s Bacon of the Sea, wild caught Alaskan fish. Donna and Jesse from Livingston HealthCare will be there to help anyone navigate the healthcare system, including Medicare. The DesChene family will be back with their alpacas.

Church news

Ryan Ward of Montana Bible College in Bozeman will be the guest speaker at the l0:45 morning worship service Sunday, Aug. 12, at the Wilsall Community Church.

Build a Better Wilsall Foundation

Build a Better Wilsall Foundation meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at the Shields Valley Senior Center in Wilsall.

School Board

The Shields Valley School Board meets at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Aug. 8, at the Wilsall school multipurpose room.

Senior potluck

The Shields Valley Senior Citizens potluck dinner starts at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at the senior center in Wilsall. There will be special music and readings.

Old Settlers

Old Settlers days are coming to Clyde Park Aug. 25 and 26. If you have quilts, bring them for the quilt show. Mary Karell at 222-1728 can give you more information. Rifle raffle ticket are on sale at several places in the Shields Valley.

An ice cream social will be available at noon Aug. 25 at the Shields Valley United Methodist Church. There will be no lunch there this year. Russ Bailey’s Talent Show will also be at the Methodist Church. The Methodist church also has a country store from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. selling baked goods, homemade articles, cutlery, jewelry and collectables.

Reunions

Erma and Melvin Goffena traveled to East Helena with Guy Chriske Saturday for the Hebnes family reunion at the home of Bryon and Dot Vieth. About 35 people attended from Arizona, Washington, Alaska and across Montana.

Jean Skillman attended the Sunday Graham cousins picnic at the home of Connie Shelhamer Bozeman. About 25 family members came from across Montana, Washington and Arizona.

Club news

The Wilsall Vets Club and Auxiliary held their monthly potluck supper and card party at the Shields Valley Senior Center Monday evening.

Cards

• The Clyde Park Bridge Club met Aug. 1 at Clyde Park Tavern and Cafe. with Joyce Sarrazin as hostess. Prize winners were Ken DeBoer, high; and Bob Eyman, bingo.

• Winners of the Aug. 7 Senior Citizens card party were Georgia Hogenson, first; Marie Smith, second; Patti Vennes, low.
