Eighth-grader wins Shields Valley School spelling bee

Shields Valley School Spelling Bee winners are eighth-grader Remy Sexton, first place; fourth-grader Kendall Mosley, second place; sixth-grader Alicia Hunt, third place; and eighth-grader Ava Burkes, fourth. 

The spelling bee was held Jan. 29 in Wilsall.

Others participating in the bee were fourth-grader Travis Sands, fifth graders Jessica Pope and Leander Kay; sixth-grader Anna Collins; seventh-graders Asha Jerke and Tanner Sanderson.

The top four winners of the Shields Valley Spelling Bee will participate in the County Spelling Bee at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the Shane Lalani Center for the Arts in Livingston.


Commissioner visit

County Commissioner Clint Tinsley will meet with folks at 9 a.m. at the Old Wilsall Hardware Deli, also known as Val’s, Friday, Feb. 7, in Wilsall.


School board meets

The Shields Valley School Board meets at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the Wilsall school Multipurpose Room.


Town Hall news

The Clyde Park Town Council met Monday evening. It was decided that Clyde Park Town Hall meetings be moved to the second Wednesday of each month. This will take effect on March 11, 2020.


School elections

Shields Valley School District has two three-year term school board trustee positions open in 2020. 

Candidates must be qualified to vote in the district and be a resident of the school district. Anyone wishing to be placed on the trustee ballot at the May school election may pick up the necessary forms from the District Clerk Rhonda Lahaye at the Wilsall school. 

Candidates are required to file a declaration of intent and an oath of candidacy. All forms must be signed and filed with the Clerk of the District by Mar. 26, 2020.

FROG dance

A FROG (father, relative, other guy) dance will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Clyde Park Community Center. It is open to all girls kindergarten through eighth grade. Donations are welcome. It is sponsored by the Girl Scouts Leaders of Shield Valley.


Church news

Bible Club, sponsored by Child Evangelism Fellowship of Montana and hosted by the Wilsall Community Church, meets from 4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday for six weeks starting Feb. 12 in Wilsall at the Shields Valley Elementary School in the art room of the white building. 

Boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade are welcome. All new students — those who didn’t attend the first session —  must complete a registration form before attending. Forms are available from Miss Pigman, the art teacher, or call Janet Clark, coordinator, at 578-2327. Forms may also be picked up at the Wilsall Community Church or the Shields Valley Bible Church in Clyde Park.


Club news

•The Women of Wilsall met Monday evening at the home of Judy Jenkins. They discussed the plans for the St. Patty’s Day dinner at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 17. There will be the usual pie silent auction. More details will come after their March 2 meeting.

• The Wilsall Vets Club and Auxiliary held their monthly potluck dinner meeting and card party Monday at the Shields Valley Senior Center.


School schedule

• Feb. 6: The junior high boys basketball teams play Livingston Sleeping Giant Middle School at 4;30 p.m. in Clyde Park.

• Feb. 7: The high school basketball teams play Townsend starting with the girls junior varsity at 2:30 p.m. in Clyde Park.

• Feb. 8: The elementary and junior high boys basketball teams play White Sulphur Springs starting at 9 a.m. in Clyde Park. The high school basketball teams play Manhattan Christian starting with the girls junior varsity at 2:30 p.m.

• Feb. 13: The elementary and junior high boys basketball teams play Gardiner starting at 4:30 p.m. in Clyde Park.
