Annual Quilting Week is set for Jan. 20-24 in Wilsall

The annual Quilting Week at Shields River Lutheran Church in Wilsall is planned for Jan. 20 through 24.

Anyone in the community that would like to help with sewing, pinning or tying the blankets is welcome for the full week or any part of the week and anyone wanting to donate cotton fabric may bring it to the church. Workers will be there from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The finished quilts have been given to the Montana Rescue Mission in Billings, Shodair Children’s Home, the Shrine Hospital, local needs, and Disaster Response and World Hunger Appeal of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

 

Church news

• Men’s breakfast at Shields River Lutheran Church in Wilsall is at 7 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18.

• Paul Seastrand of Wilsall will be the guest speaker at the 9 a.m. service Sunday, Jan. 19, at Shields River Lutheran Church in Wilsall.

 

Club news

The Shields Valley Book Club meets at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at Shields River Lutheran Church in Wilsall. The book being discussed this month is “Circe” by Madeline Miller.

 

Senior potluck

The Shields Valley Senior Citizens potluck dinner starts at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at the senior center in Wilsall. There will be some Bingo playing.

 

Carrier thanks

Wayne and Sheila Doornek, Livingston Enterprise carriers for Shields Valley, would like to thank their Enterprise subscribers from Livingston to Clyde Park and Wilsall for all the goodies and Christmas gifts they received and for all the gratuities they received throughout the year. They appreciate those who have kept the snow removed around their Enterprise box.

The Doorneks said they look forward to serving their subscribers in the coming year.

 

Cards

• Wilsall Women’s Pinochle Club met Monday afternoon at the Shields Valley Senior Center. Prize winners were Marge Briggs, high; Linda Wilson, low; and Georgia Hogenson, traveling.

• Winners of the Jan. 14 Senior Citizens card party were Georgia Hogenson, first; Marge Briggs, second; and Jean Skillman, traveling.

 

School schedule

• Jan. 16: The high school basketball teams start playing with the girls junior varsity at 3 p.m. in Harlowton. The junior high and elementary boys basketball teams start playing at 4 p.m. in White Sulphur Springs.

• Jan. 17: The high school basketball teams start playing with the boys junior varsity at 4 p.m. in White Sulphur Springs. There is no girls varsity game.

• Jan. 18: The high school girls junior varsity basketball team plays Helena Christian at 11 a.m. in Clyde Park. The junior high and elementary boys basketball teams start playing at 10 a.m. in Gardiner.

• Jan. 21: The junior high and elementary boys basketball teams start playing at 4:15 p.m. against Big Timber in Clyde Park.

• Jan. 23: The high school basketball teams start playing with the boys junior varsity at 4 p.m. in Gardiner.
