The Shields Valley girls used a 22-point second quarter to blow past the Gardiner Bruins Thursday, 52-23.

After a slow first quarter where Shields Valley took an 8-3 lead, the Rebels outscored the Bruins 22-3 to go up 30-6 going into halftime. Emma Doolittle and Jen Fairchild led Shields Valley in second-quarter scoring with six points apiece.

The Bruins started the third quarter on an 8-2 run, but the Rebels’ press defense forced enough turnovers to end the quarter on a 10-2 run and go up 42-16. The Rebels were on cruise control for the rest of the game to clinch the win.

Molly Engle led the Rebels in scoring with 17 points, followed by Fairchild with 12 and Marissa Marshall with 10.

The Bruins failed to get a single scorer in double figures, with Alexis McDonald putting up six. Brook Russell and Josie Thomas were right behind her with five and four points, respectively.

Shields Valley returns to .500 with a 5-5 record and will look to keep it moving with a home game tonight against West Yellowstone. Gardiner falls to 3-8 and will hit the road Saturday to take on West Yellowstone.
