Shields Valley Booster Club dinner set for Thursday

 The Shields Valley Booster Club Welcome Back Dinner is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Clyde Park gym. 

The main meal and dessert will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring a side dish or salad. Booster Club membership will be taken that evening. Anyone purchasing a membership that evening will be entered to win a pair of Shields Valley season activity passes. Booster Club Rebel sportswear is being displayed and is for sale at the Clyde Park  Western Drug Too store.

The required sports parent/athlete meeting will follow the dinner at about 7 p.m.


Other upcoming events

• Jennell Huff of the Bank of the Rockies will hold the second in a series of “CONversation” events about cons at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Clyde Park Rural Fire Department, on Highway 89. She will discuss specific scams that are more prevalent during the summer months, such as lottery and vacation sweepstakes scams. All are welcome to come and learn how to avoid scams. Light refreshments will be served. 

• The Shields Valley Senior Citizens potluck dinner starts at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Senior Center in Wilsall. There will be special music and readings. 

• Rebel preseason scrimmage will be held Friday, Aug. 19, in Wilsall. Volleyball begins at 5:30 p.m. and football at 7:30 p.m.

• Shields Valley schools start Monday, Aug. 22, with a full day of classes and hot lunch. For more information, call the Clyde Park school at 686-4621 or the Wilsall school at 578-2535.

• Old Settlers Days weekend is coming Aug. 27-28 in Clyde Park. There are many ways to participate. The parade theme is “Tribute to Yellowstone,” with cash prizes and no entry fee. Pies are needed for the pie auction. Folks are always welcome to take part in the talent show and the ranch run. All of these are on Saturday.


Farmers Market news

The Shields Valley Farmer’s Market starts at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at Holliday Park in Clyde Park. Special music for the evening is open mic with everyone welcome. For more information call Monica at 686-4444.

The 2016 Shields Valley Farmer’s Market Harvest Dinner is planned for 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at the Wilsall Dance Hall. Be watching for more information as the day approaches.


Preschool to open

Little Bird Preschool, a kindergarten readiness program for children ages 3 through 5, opens Aug. 29 at 47 Indian Creek Road. It will run from 8:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays  It is operated by Mandy Johnstone, an experienced elementary and preschool teacher. Church news

A coffee hour will be held at 8:30 a.m. before the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday, Aug. 21, at Shields Valley United Methodist Church in Clyde Park.


Craft group

A craft group meets at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at the Shields Valley Senior Center in Wilsall.
