Quilting week is coming up

The annual quilting week at Shields River Lutheran Church in Wilsall is planned for Jan. 16 through 20. 

Anyone in the community who would like to help with sewing, pinning or tying the blankets is welcome for the full week or any part of the week, and anyone wanting to donate cotton fabric may bring it to the church. Workers will be there from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. In the past, the finished quilts have been given to the Montana Rescue Mission in Billings, Shodair Children’s Home, the Shrine Hospital, local needs, and Disaster Response and World Hunger Appeal of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. 

 

Upcoming events

• The Shields Valley School Geography Bee is at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the high school library in Clyde Park.

• The Shields Valley Senior Citizen potluck starts at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Senior Center in Wilsall. There will be special music and readings. 

 

Notices of death

• Word has been received of the Dec. 18 death of Eric Dissel, 69, at Highgate in Bozeman. He was a Vietnam veteran and longtime resident of Smith Creek. The family requests that memorial donations be given to the Wilsall Fire Department ear marked for the Emergency Medical Services.

• Word has been received of the Jan. 4 death of Russell Pepper, 75, of Simms. He was the son of Warren and Irene Pepper and raised in Park County. He was a 1959 graduate of Wilsall High School and owned Bird Tail Angus and Treasure Bull Test in Simms. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Lion’s Hall in Simms.

 

Church news

A coffee hour will be held at 8:30 a.m. before the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday, Jan. 15, at Shields Valley United Methodist Church in Clyde Park.

 

Club news

• The Shields Valley Book Club meets at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at the Shields River Lutheran Church in Wilsall. The book being discussed this month is “Bleed, Blister, and Purge: A History of Medicine on the American Frontier” by Volney Steele, M.D.

• The Women of Wilsall met Jan. 2 at the home of Chris Arthun. They discussed the things that worked and the things that didn’t at their December Winter Fun Day.

 

Cards

• The Clyde Park Bridge Club met Jan. 4 at Clyde Park Tavern and Cafe. with Ken and Kathy DeBoer as hosts. Prize winners were Loraine Eyman, high; and Shirley Wilson, bingo.

• Wilsall Women’s Pinochle Club met Monday afternoon at the Shields Valley Senior Center. Prize winners were Linda Wilson, high; Marge Briggs, low; and Marie Smith, traveling.

• Winners of the Jan. 10 Senior Citizens card party were Jean Skillman, first; Marie Smith, second; Georgia Hogenson, low; and Dorothy Lucas, traveling.

 

School schedule:  

• Jan. 13: The high school basketball teams play White Sulphur Springs at 2:30 p.m. starting with the girls junior varsity in Clyde Park.

• Jan. 14: The high school basketball teams play Harlowton at 2:30 p.m. starting with the girls junior varsity in Clyde Park.

• Jan. 18: The school Geography Bee is at 9 a.m. at the high school library in Clyde Park.

• Jan. 19: The high school basketball teams play at 4 p.m. starting with the boys junior varsity in Gardiner.
