Poor shooting dooms Shields Valley

The Shields Valley Rebels girls basketball team suffered its second loss of the season Friday, falling to the Lone Peak Bighorns 42-36.
The Rebels were riding a three-game winning streak entering Friday’s matchup, but the Bighorns held them to their lowest scoring output of the year while also scoring the second-most points an opponent has put up against the Rebels (the most coming in the season-opening 65-37 loss to Tri-Cities on Dec. 7.)
Shields Valley had shooting struggles against Lone Peak, going a mere 14-of-54 from the floor (26 percent) while only hitting 3-of-11 3-pointers and 5-of-10 from the free throw line.
Junior Molly Engle finished as Shields Valley’s leading scorer, putting up 13 points on 5-of-14 shooting and 3-of-4 from the free throw line while adding 14 rebounds (six of which came on the offensive end). Senior Jen Fairchild was right behind her with 11 points on 3-of-9 shooting, 3-of-7 from the 3-point line and 2-of-4 from the free throw line. Senior Emma Doolittle added eight points, three assists and three rebounds.
Shields Valley gets a break before hosting Townsend on Jan 5. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
