The Park High Rangers girls basketball team went 0-2 over the weekend, falling to the Belgrade Panthers Friday, 56-32, and the Butte Central Maroons Saturday, 59-50.
Belgrade jumped to a 34-20 lead at the half thanks to the scoring of Gabby Webber and Kiah Hohenstein, who each had 12 points. Park’s offense struggled in the second half, being held to 12 points, including two in the fourth quarter.
For the Rangers, no one scored in double figures, with Kodie Vondra leading the team with nine. Abby Kokot was right behind her with six. For Belgrade, Webber and Hohenstein finished with 18 and 15 points, respectively.
Saturday saw much of the same against Butte Central, with the Maroons jumping to a 21-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Rangers’ defense made a quick turnaround and only gave up eight points in the second quarter and cut the lead to 29-22 at the half.
After being down 45-31 at the end of the third, Park put up a 19-point fourth quarter, but were unable to take the lead and fell by nine.
Park had two players score in double figures, with Larissa Saarel and Vondra scoring 12 and 11 points, respectively, with Vondra putting up eight of her points in the fourth quarter. Butte Central was led by Megan Michelolti and Kloie Thatcher, who put up 21 and 20 points, respectively, and combined for 41 of the team’s 59 points.
“We were very disappointed to get off to a slow start in both games this weekend,” said Park head coach Scott Coleman. “We are very focused in looking for remedies to these lackadaisical starts to game.”
The Rangers fall to 2-6 on the year and are riding a three-game losing streak. They will look to rebound Tuesday when they host the Big Timber Sheepherders.
