After the area’s water system failed Wednesday, the Norris Campground reopened to campers Friday morning.

The National Park Service closed the campground, located on the park’s northwest side about 20 miles south of Mammoth Hot Springs, on Thursday after learning of the water system failure. The failure also affected nearby employee residences.

With the water back on but not yet tested, park officials advise campers and residents to boil water for at three minutes before drinking, cooking or brushing teeth for next one to three days, a park news release said.

The cause of the water system failure has not yet been determinded, but was not caused by recent seismic activity, a park spokesman said Friday.
