New hardware store opens soon

A new hardware store is opening on Main Street, offering more of a unique hardware shopping experience.

Riverside Hardware is owned by a self-proclaimed paint nerd Dan Durgan. The business moved into the location where Obsidian once was  before it moved to Second Street. Riverside Hardware opens May 14.

Durgan said he is trying to give the place a more “boutique” feeling not typical of hardware stores.

He is installing repurposed hardwood for the floors, painting teal and other bright colors on the walls, and using black shelving. The only thing he thinks resembles typical hardware stores is the fluorescent lighting used in the screw, bolt and nail section because he thought it would be important for people to see those items better.

“I wanted to stay away from that sort of sterile look,” Durgan said.

The business will offer the usual hardware appliances, with a wide selection of Milwaukee tools and new outdoor equipment. It will also have a very large selection of paints.

In addition, Riverside Hardware will have a Pepsi soda fountain and treats from Bodega bakery.

“I have these because whenever I go to the hardware store, it always seems to make me hungry,” Durgan said.

He is recruiting knowledgeable staff so they can explain things to customers easily, Durgan said.

Store hours will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

Riverside Hardware is located at 107 S. Main St.

It can be reached at 333-2555 once the store opens May 14.
