CATCHING AIR AT MCNAIR

More than 30 people were gathered at McNair Gravity Park on Wednesday night, skating, scootering, biking and watching children perform tricks.

The skatepark opened Wednesday, an early surprise for gravity sports enthusiasts, prior to the grand opening Skaterpalooza party at 11 a.m. on June 23.

The park, which required more than 12,000 square feet of concrete to be poured, was originally supposed to be open in August, but work was completed early. Once the city got its liability insurance approved, the park was opened.

There will still be some more landscaping and finishing work, but citizens are welcome to use it.

The Skaterpalooza event will feature concessions, face painting, inflatables, music and beer from Neptune’s Brewery, as well as a live auction of skateboard decks, art and pies.
