Ironman Triathlete, Lynn Morgan Griffith, was born March 23, 1944, in Livingston to Lloyd and Olive Douglas Griffith. He was the third of four children. He died Dec. 14, 2019, in Portland Oregon after losing a two-year race with lung cancer.

He first married Linda Royale Griffith, with whom he had two daughters. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, GK Griffith; his daughter, Beau (Randy Koshiol); his sister, Avis (Toby Stapleton); and brothers, Douglas Griffith and Gordon Griffith (Nicolene Kolence Lundborg). He is also survived by his grandson, Conner Morgan Payne (Alyx); his granddaughter, Emma Rose Griffith; 11 nieces and nephews; and 22 of his 24 Douglas-Griffith cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Kit Griffith; sister-in-law, Ely Griffith and nephew, Jasper Griffith.

Lynn attended public schools in Livingston. He graduated from Northwest Christian College, where he was a member of their basketball team, and obtained his Masters of Education at the University of Oregon. He was a huge fan of the University of Oregon Ducks — Go Ducks!

He taught fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades for many years in Portland, coaching basketball, track and cross-country before retiring.

Lynn competed in nine Ironman Triathlons worldwide. He bicycled coast to coast across the United States twice, from Canada to Mexico once, and cycled 100 miles in every state. Although he was an athlete first, he loved teaching, fly fishing, gardening, watercolor painting and meeting people. He was consistently friendly and giving. He would start up discussions with anyone and everyone. If you didn’t know him initially, after a few minutes, you would. Lynn was a committed Christian and taught adult classes in his church, where he sang in the choir with GK. He loved the Lord, striving to glorify Him every day of his life.

Lynn has been cremated, and a Celebration of his Life will be held in Portland, Oregon on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020.
