Five new school virus cases as students return from break

The Livingston School District reported five new COVID-19 cases among students and staff upon returning from winter break Monday.

According to the district’s online COVID-19 dashboard, three staffers at Washington School are isolating after testing positive for COVID-19, as well as one student from Sleeping Giant Middle School and one student from East Side School.

It is not known whether the staffers were exposed to COVID-19 at school or away from school, according to the dashboard.

Winans Elementary and Washington School welcomed students back four days per week Monday, while East Side, Sleeping Giant and Park High School remain on the “A/B+” schedule, with students alternating days and with some having the option of coming in for extra help on their days off.

All positive individuals and close contacts are isolating or quarantining at home, according to the dashboard. A total of 25 students and staff are isolating or quarantining because of COVID-19.

The state of Montana’s COVID-19 case map reported 16 new COVID-19 cases in Park County Tuesday, bringing the county to 902 total confirmed COVID-19 cases during the pandemic, 93 of which are active.

Overall, the state of Montana has reported 83,378 COVID-19 cases during the pandemic, 4,924 of which are active.

There have been 1,005 deaths in Montana attributed to COVID-19, six of which were Park County residents.
