Farmers Market set for ’16 summer season

Enterprise Staff

Livingston Farmers Market Western Sustainability Exchange has announced its new Farmers Market coordinator, as well as 2016 summer market schedule.

Livingston resident Vicki Petry will take the position of the new WSE Farmers Market coordinator. Petry is a former Farmers Market vendor and frequently attends the market with her family. She has also coordinated events such as St. Mary’s Bash and has a degree in public relations, which will help with market promotion, a WSE press release said.

Vicki will collaborate with the same team of WSE staff and volunteers who worked with  former longtime Farmers Market Master Rob Bankston to organize and grow the Livingston Farmers Market, the WSE press release said.

WSE Office Manager Miranda Bly will continue in her role in vendor registration, running WSE’s booth during markets as well as  promoting the market to radio and print media.   This will be her fourth year with Farmers Market.

WSE Development Director Heidi Barrett, previously employed with the Park County Senior Center, has taken an active role in securing business sponsorships and planning the   market’s special days, the release said. She is also lining up some bands and entertainment.

WSE Producer Coordinator Tyrrell Hibbard will continue his role of produce and meat vendor recruitment.

WSE Executive  Director Lill  Erickson, will work behind the scenes, supporting the staff and helping make any major decisions about the market.

“We estimate that last year’s Livingston Farmers Market generated over $245,000 for its 224 vendors over the course of the summer and at the Holiday Farmers Market,” Erickson said in the release. “We had vendors from all over Montana in attendance.”

There will be no major changes to the market this year other than that it will be held outside rain or shine. In addition, vendors will be required to sign in at WSE booth before setting up, and they’ll receive a map showing them where their booth will be rather than receiving an escort to their booth site, the release said.

The markets will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays from June 1 through Sept. 21, and admission will be free. A special countywide Farmers Market will be held 3-7 p.m. Aug. 17 in conjunction with the National Park Service’s centennial birthday and the corresponding celebration in Park County.

Wildfire Preparedness Day will kick off the Livingston Farmers Market season June 1. During the event, Park County FireSafe Coalition will offer wildfire safety information and organize activities for the kids, including photo opportunities with Smokey Bear and a fire engine appearance. The Park High Band will provide music, and the Yellowstone Ballet School will also perform.
