Author and journalist Gwen Florio will present a virtual discussion of her new book, “Best Laid Plans,” on Thursday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m.

The free event will stream live on Elk River Books’ Facebook page.

“On the heels of her highlyacclaimed Lola Wicks mystery series, Florio launches a new series, and a new heroine, with `Best Laid Plans,’ an Elk River Books news release said. “Nora Best sets out on the road with an Airstream trailer, leaving behind a cheating husband, and, she believes, her troubles. However, trouble soon finds her in a bloodstrewn Wyoming campsite and a murder accusation.”

The release goes on to say that in its starred review, Kirkus Reviews calls the book a “breathtaking pageturner,” and Publishers Weekly notes, “Florio keeps the twists and turns coming as Nora gains confidence and independence. Fans of strong female leads will look forward to seeing more of plucky Nora.”

Now based in Missoula, Florio has had a career in journalism that took her to several countries and numerous conflict zones - a background shared with her character Lola Wicks, protagonist of the Pinckley Prize for Crime Fiction and High Plains Book Award-winning novel Montana. Florio has published five books in that series, as well as the stand-alone novel Silent Hearts. She recently left her day job as editor of the Missoulian newspaper.
