Crust and Crumb Bakery opens in Livingston

A new Livingston bakery takes a farmers market favorite to its own store front.

Crust and Crumb Bakery, located in the Yellowstone Gateway Mall, has classic favorites such as pie, cakes, breakfast and lunch items,including a unique chicken salad recipe and homemade bread.

Crust and Crumb Bakery owners Trish and Wes Kirk have been serving their baked goods to farmers markets and grocery stores in Bozeman and Livingston areas.

Trish Kirk said people had been telling her for the last dozen years to open her own bakery but only now did it seem like the right time.

The business also incorporates the Kirk’s two daughters, Sarah and Hope. While Sarah was out for the week, Hope, who was working the cash register Monday, said her favorite pie is the strawberry rhubarb.

With Crust and Crumb Bakery just having opened its doors Thursday, Kirk said she expects to add other items to their menu in the future.

Currently, the business does special order cakes for weddings, but Kirk said she wants to create a list of cake flavors people can choose from, including the regular chocolate and vanilla but also some of the more exotic flavors like lemon curd or coconut.

She also wants to begin serving deli and bread items for take-home so people can have them for dinner — “because people don’t want it to sit in their car all day,” Kirk said.

With a new cook and baker, both with years of experience, the business will have its official grand opening on Friday. The event will feature prizes and, of course, lots of bakery treats.

Although Crust and Crumb Bakery has its own storefront, Kirk hopes to keep bringing their baked goods to the Western Sustainability Exchange Farmers Market in Livingston this summer.

“We will see how this goes,” Kirk said.

Crust and Crumb Bakery is located in the Yellowstone Gateway Mall at 1106 W. Park St. #21. The business is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. It can be reached at 333-3300.
