A sixth Park County resident has died from COVID-19, the Park City County Health Department reported Tuesday.

The woman, a longtime Park County resident in her 80s, passed away at Livingston HealthCare Tuesday morning, according to a health department press release.

“This is a deeply sad week and weighs heavily on the people of Park County. Our thoughts and sympathy goes out to the family and community” Park City County Health Officer Dr. Laurel Desnick said in the release.

Park County didn’t report a death from COVID-19 until Nov. 16, and the deaths of community members really hits home for people how serious the pandemic is, Desnick said Tuesday.

“These people that are dying are real people,” she said.

Despite the recent deaths, Park County has seen decreased levels of COVID-19 recently, Desnick said, despite increased testing levels.

The state of Montana’s COVID-19 case map reported four new COVID-19 cases in Park County Tuesday, bringing the county to 856 total cases so far during the pandemic, 87 of which are active.

Those numbers show people in Park County are taking the virus seriously, she said, which they will need to do until the COVID-19 vaccine has been more widely distributed.

“It’s a crucial time,” Desnick said. “We could make it or break it.”
