Park County is considering a ban on animals on county property.

Civil Deputy Attorney Shannan Piccolo said the county had issues with animals in the courthouse “going to the bathroom and other things.”

In response, the Park County Safety Committee suggested drafting a policy on limiting animals on county property. On Tuesday, the Park County Commission gave the committee the goahead on drafting a policy.

Piccolo said the county would not limit service animals, but they would have to determine where to place limits on companion animals and pets.

That includes deciding whether that ban would extend to the fairgrounds and other county properties. It also includes deciding a policy for Windrider and Angel Line transportation services, which currently allow service animals but not comfort animals.

“It’s still to be determined,” said Park County Commissioner Steve Caldwell. “We have to figure out what is the extent of what we refer to as the county campus and determine how far does that extend.”
