Commissioner visits valley on Friday

 Park County Commissioner Clint Tinsley will be in Shields Valley Friday, Oct. 7.

Tinsley will be at the Old Wilsall Hardware Deli from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m., and at the Town Hall in Clyde Park from 10 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Emily Post, administration assistant and communications director, will be with him. 


Other upcoming meetings, events

• Build a Better Wilsall Foundation meets at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at the Shields Valley Senior Center in Wilsall.

• The Shields Valley FFA Alumni meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, in the Ag Room of the high school in Clyde Park. 

• A candidate forum will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at the elementary school in Wilsall. The event is sponsored by Montana State University-Park County Extension.

• The annual Flea Market sponsored by the Shields Valley Senior Citizens is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22. Anyone wanting to rent a table for the event may call Jean at 578-2570 or Judy at 224-0407.


School news

• The Shields Valley School Book Fair at the elementary school library is this week. It will be open 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Oct. 6. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7.

• Parent-Teacher Conferences at the Shields Valley Schools will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at both schools. 

• The Shields Valley School Board meets at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, in the Wilsall school Multipurpose Room. 


Community calendars

The Clyde Park Women’s Club community calendars are for sale at Glenn’s. The calendars run from October 2016 though September 2017 and cost $5 each.


Harvest Dinner is Oct. 23

The third annual Shields Valley Farmers Market Harvest Dinner will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at the Wilsall Dance Hall. A cash bar by Antlers Bar opens at 5 p.m., with dinner served at 6 p.m. The dinner will be catered by Crazy Mountain Catering, and the dessert, coffee and tea by Drinking Horse Coffee Cabin. The dinner will be followed by music and dancing with Open Range. The cost is $30 per person, $50 per couple, or $150 for a table of six. Reservations are needed by Oct. 10 by calling 686-4444 or purchasing the tickets at the Drinking Horse Coffee Cabin in Clyde Park.


Anniversary celebration

A 50th wedding anniversary celebration for Kris and Joe Lawellin is planned for Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Clyde Park Community Hall. The dinner starts at 2 p.m., with meat, potatoes, vegetables, desserts and beverages provided. Friends and family are asked to bring a salad to share. From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Wendy Bauwens, of Sunnyside Clydes, will give horse drawn wagon rides. From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., there will be music by the Crazy Mountain Express.

Club news

The Wilsall Vets Club held its monthly potluck meeting and card party at the Shields Valley Senior Center Monday evening. 



Winners of the Oct. 4 Senior Citizens card party were Jean Landers, first; Jean Skillman, low; and Marie Smith, traveling.


School schedule:

• Oct. 6: Parent-Teacher conferences are from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at both schools.

• Oct. 7: The junior high volleyball teams play the Sleeping Giant Middle School at 3 p.m. in Clyde Park. The junior varsity and varsity volleyball teams play at 5 p.m. at Manhattan Christian. The junior high and varsity football teams play Lone Peak at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, at Big Sky.

• Oct. 8: The junior high volleyball teams play in the Belgrade tournament. The junior varsity volleyball team plays the Belgrade C-squad at 10 a.m. in Clyde Park.• Oct. 13: The varsity volleyball team plays White Sulphur Springs at 6:30 p.m. in Clyde Park. The junior high volleyball team plays White Sulphur Springs at 4 p.m. in Clyde Park.
