Classes, book club and more to start soon

A beginning quilting class is planned to start at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Wilsall Fire Hall  It will meet two Saturdays and is open to beginning quilters and others who want to try the pattern used in this class. Call Patti Hoyem at 578-2134 for more information and to register for the class.
The annual quilting week at Shields River Lutheran Church in Wilsall is planned for Jan. 15 through 19 . Anyone in the community that would like to help with sewing, pinning or tying the blankets is welcome for the full week or any part of the week. Anyone wanting to donate cotton fabric may bring it to the church. Workers will be there from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The finished quilts have been given to the Montana Rescue Mission in Billings, Shodair and Intermountain Children’s Home, the Shrine Hospital, local needs, and Lutheran World Relief.

• The Shields Valley Book Club meets at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15,  at the home of Pearl D’Ewart northwest of Wilsall. The book being discussed this month is “Beneath a Scarlet Sky” by Mark Sullivan.
• The Shields Valley School Geography Bee is at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the high school library in Clyde Park.
• The Shields Valley Senior Citizens potluck dinner starts at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at the senior center in Wilsall. There will be special music and readings.

The Clyde Park Bridge Club met Jan. 3 at Clyde Park Tavern and Cafe. with Penny Arnold as hostess. Prize winners were Bob Eyman, high; and Joyce Sarrazin, bingo.
Wilsall Women’s Pinochle Club met Monday afternoon at the Shields Valley Senior Center. Prize winners were Marie Smith, high; Marge Briggs, low; and Mary Sarver, traveling.
Winners of the Jan. 9 Senior Citizens card party were Jean Skillman, first; Marge Briggs, second; and Marie Smith, low.

School Schedule
• Jan. 12: The high school basketball teams play White Sulphur Springs starting at 2:30 p.m. with the girls junior varsity in Clyde Park.
• Jan. 13: The high school basketball teams start playing at 3:30 p.m. with the girls junior varsity in Harlowton. The elementary and junior high girls play basketball with Gardiner starting at 9 a.m. in Clyde Park.
• Jan. 17: The Geography Bee is at 9 a.m. in the Clyde Park school library.
• Jan. 18: The high school basketball teams play Gardiner starting with the boys junior varsity at 4 p.m. in Clyde Park.
