The Livingston City Pool will close for the season Aug. 7, the city of Livingston announced Tuesday.

According to a post on the city’s Facebook page, students returning to colleges and local schools in August, plus the pool’s inability to train any new lifeguards in April and May because of the coronavirus pandemic, means the pool will not have the minimum staffing required to operate beyond Aug. 7.

An expected drop off in pool use with schools back in session combined with the cost of maintaining the pool and added requirements for cleaning and sanitation pose “unsurmountable fiscal challenges to continuing beyond August 7,” the post said.

The pool opened for the season June 15. The splash park will remain open, the post said, weather-permitting.
