A sign advises the public of the closure of McNair Gravity  Park.

The city of Livingston announced Tuesday that McNair Skate Park is closed until further notice.

“In consultation with the Park County Health Department, this decision has been made due to a large number of visitors from areas with higher infection levels using the park and the inability to properly practice social distancing measures within the confined area of the skate park,” the city’s announcement said.

Signs are going up and the area will be taped off and actively patrolled by Livingston Police and the Park County Sheriff’s Office, the announcement said.

“I think it’s a really good and smart idea,” Nicole Maher, aka the “Skate Park Mom,” said Wednesday morning of the closure.

Maher said she’s concerned for everyone’s safety, especially at a place where kids gather. Closing a skate park is a big deal, Maher said, and everyone needs to respect that.

“Just because the schools are closed and people are off work doesn’t mean we can all just go hang out,” Maher said.

The closure is temporary, according to the announcement.
