City of Livingston accepted into Main Street Program

The city of Livingston has been accepted into the Montana Main Street Program, providing a new resource to help the community plan for the future.

The city, with the help of the Park County Environmental Council and Park County Community Foundation, identified the program as a potential funding source for projects downtown.

The program, which is run through the Montana Department of Commerce and affiliated with the national Main Street America Coordinating Program, awards grants that help towns with economic development, urban revitalization and historic preservation. The program already has 27 members, including  similar-sized tourism-driven towns like Red Lodge.

At least 20 community organizations wrote letters in support of Livingston joining the organization, and Program Coordinator Tash Wisemiller visited with the Livingston City Commission and public in October to help explain how the program can help the community create a united vision and help bring that vision to fruition.
