Body of missing Texas man found in Shields River

A 74-year-old Texas man reported missing Wednesday evening was found dead Thursday in the Shields River, according to a news release from the Park County Sheriff’s Office.

The man, who was not immediately identified, was reported missing at 9:43 p.m. Wednesday on Shields River Road East in Park County.

Deputies with the Park County Sheriff’s Office responded and launched a search for the missing man. A K9 officer with the Livingston Police Department and other ground resources were used during the night, but were unable to locate the man, the news release states. A helicopter equipped with infrared technology also was deployed in an effort to locate him.

At approximately 5:55 a.m. Thursday, deputies found the man deceased in the Shields River, the release states.

A search and rescue team from Gallatin County aided in recovering the man’s body from the river.

The Park County Sheriff’s Office and the Park County Coroner’s Office are still working to complete their investigation into the cause and manner of the man’s death, the release states.

“We would like to thank all of the involved people and entities for their help in locating and retrieving the missing man, and we would also like to express our sincere condolences to the family,” Undersheriff Clay Herbst said in the release.
