BILLINGS — The Billings Central Catholic High Rams are undefeated in conference play so far this season with a perfect 10-0 record. Saturday night they showed the Ranger girls why. Striking, digging, and blocking as a team with speed and aggressive play the Rams beat the Rangers in straight sets, 25-9, 25-10, and 25-11.

The Rangers were off their game from the tip of the first ball and never really were in the match. In the first set they were down 11-4 before Rangers coach Kim Strupp took time out. Strupp tried to light a fire under the girls, but the Rams were simply too fired up to lose.

The first set ended with the Rams scoring on a series of 6 points in a row and then again, another 6 points in a row. The final point for the Rams was the best rally the Rangers were able to put together during the whole match when Taylor Young, Megan Nelson, and Hailey Strupp were able to combine for key digs and blocks, but the Rams ended the set with a strong kill.

The last two sets, the Rams consistently found open gaps in the Rangers defense, served strong for multiple aces, and with a front line that featured three girls standing 5’10” blocked numerous returns by the Rangers.

In sports, especially at the high school level, sometimes it’s just not your day. For the Rangers, Shannon Nelson ended the night with 9-assists and 1-kill and Taylor Young had 4-kills, 4-digs, and 1-ace.

“We played out of sync this match. We struggled to work as a team and pull ourselves out of the hole we let ourselves get into. These girls have amazing talent, and we just couldn’t put it all together at the same time today,” Ranger head coach Kimm Strupp said.

The Rangers will try to get back into the win column when they host Harve High at 4 p.m. this Friday.
