Auditions to be held for ‘Cabaret’

“Life is a cabaret, old chum, so come to the cabaret.”

Auditions for Kander & Ebb’s “Cabaret” will be held at the Shane Lalani Center for the Arts on Tuesday, May

15.

Director Russell Lewis will hold auditions for the show beginning at 7 p.m., according to a Shane Center news release.

“Cabaret” explores the dark, heady, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich, the release said.

Cliff, a young American writer newly arrived in Berlin, is immediately captivated by English singer Sally Bowles.

Meanwhile, Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally’s boardinghouse, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mildmannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish.

Roles are available for ages 15 and up. No prepared audition material is required.

Rehearsals will take place weekday evenings from May 21 through June 28. “Cabaret” runs weekends from June 29 through July 22, 2018.
