Annual Wilsall Ranch Rodeo to be held Friday and Saturday

The 16th annual Wilsall Ranch Rodeo is this weekend, Aug. 18-19. Notice that it is Friday and Saturday again this year.
The barbecue starts at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at the shelter at the Rodeo Grounds in Wilsall. There will be auctioning of the teams at 7 p.m. and a dance following with music by the Country Traditions.
Rodeo events include Calf Branding, Team Doctoring, Penning, Wild Cow Milking and Sorting and starts at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wilsall Rodeo Grounds. The Ranch Horse Competition and Kids dummy Roping start at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

• The Shields Valley Senior Citizens potluck dinner starts at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at the senior center in Wilsall. There will be readings and music plus Deb Down of RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) will be there to give information and answer questions.
• The Shields Valley Book Club meets at 1:30 p.m. Monday,  Aug. 21,  at the Shields River Lutheran Church in Wilsall. The book being discussed this month is “Small Great Things” by Jodi Picoult.
• The Shields Valley Farmer’s Market is Monday, Aug. 21, at 4:30 p.m. at Holliday Park in Clyde Park. Special music for the evening is TJ Casey.
• A craft group meets at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Shields Valley Senior Center in Wilsall.

Kindermusik is coming soon to the Shields Valley. Miss B, also known as BreeAnna Benz, is excited to bring her music and movement program, Kindermusik with Miss B, to the community. Starting Monday, August 21, 2017, she will be offering classes for ages 18 months to 5 years. Classes will be held each Monday morning at the Shields Valley Senior Center in Wilsall. Word has been received of the Aug. 14 death of Claud Frances, 73, in Billings. He was raised by his uncle Wendell Frances in Wilsall. Services will be Aug. 22 in Billings.

School news
• The Shields Valley Booster Club Kickoff Social starts at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Clyde Park School gym. The main meal will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring a dessert to share.
Booster Club membership will be taken that evening. The costs for membership are: businesses, $60, families, $45, individuals, $35, and senior citizens, $20.
Booster Club Rebel sportswear is displayed and for sale at the Clyde Park  Western Drug Too store.
• A mandatory preseason all sports meeting for all junior high and high school athletes and their parents will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Clyde Park School gym, following the Booster Club “Welcome Back” kickoff social. Parents/guardians who have high school athletes in any school related sports activity are required to attend and sign the necessary forms.
• The Shields Valley School District is looking for people interested in taking tickets for volleyball, football, and basketball games at all levels-elementary through high school. • Shields Valley School starts Monday, Aug. 21, with a full day of classes and hot lunch. Any questions may be answered by calling the Clyde Park school at 686-4621 or the Wilsall School at 578-2535.

Wilsall Women’s Pinochle Club met Monday afternoon at the Shields Valley Senior Center. Prize winners were Mary Sarver, high; Marge Briggs, low; and Linda Wilson, traveling.
Winners of the Aug. 15 Senior Citizens card party were Betty Burdette, first; Dorothy Lucas, second; Jean Landers, low; and Marie Smith, traveling.

Guest, visits
Weekend guests of Jim and Wilma Held were Gordy and Evy Marzahn of South Dakota and Nebraska.
Recent guests of Jim and Audrey Winkley were Loraine May and son Tim Newman of Wellington, Colorado, Janet Alley and children Elijah and Sierra Alley and Cheyenne Moon, all of Millington, Tennessee. They also visited other family in the county.
