Jodi Hames, manager of the Livingston, Butte and Anaconda Ace Hardware stores, stands in an aisle of the Livingston store last week.

Livingston’s Ace Hardware store is getting a makeover to create more open space for service areas and new products, as well as to improve customer experience.

The 13,500 square-foot store is bringing in over 2,000 new items, expanding its housewares and pet sections; expanding its outdoor furniture, grills and smokers section; and expanding seasonal and holiday offers, said store manager Jodi Hames.

Hames also manages the Ace stores in Butte and Anaconda, which, along with the Livingston shop, are owned by Tom Shellenberg and Matt Dowdell. The Livingston store had 12,855 customers last year, a 4 % increase over 2018, Hames said.

To make the changes, the store is rearranging aisles and has already expanded the space at the back of the store for a new power equipment service area.

Hames said the store will have a more open feel when customers walk through the door. The center area of the store will feature a hub with a wide variety of services, from carpet cleaning rentals to Ace’s tool borrowing program, to key cutting  — the store can also do chipped and laser keys — to delivery service, which the store also offers.

“Ace does a really good job of staying with the trends,” Hames said.

With Livingston’s Shopko store gone, there is a community need for more store items, Hames said.

“That’s one reason we’re expanding on our housewares department,” she said.

She also said the store will have a “fabulous” new indoor and outdoor lighting department.

In addition to these changes, the store recently started running the Milwaukee Tools line in its tools department, Hames said.

She said the store also just picked up Benjamin Moore Paints.

“(We’re) super excited about that,” Hames said.

Ace Hardware is located at 1106 W. Park St. It is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Reach the store at 222-0202.
