CLEVELAND — While playing in Miami, LeBron James regretted not winning an NBA title in Cleveland.

"I wish I could have won one there," he told the AP in 2012 before a practice with the U.S. Olympic team at the London Games. "I could only imagine how the parade would have been down East 9th Street."

He's about to find out.

Cleveland is throwing a parade that's been on hold for 52 years.

The smallest nation ever to compete in the Euros is showing, though, that there's a talented team behind the romantic story line.

BORDEAUX, France — Spain's 12-year unbeaten run at the European Championship ended Tuesday when Croatia came from behind to stun the two-time champion.

The 2-1 defeat relegated La Roja into second place in Group D and set up a mouthwatering round of 16 game between Spain and Italy, a repeat of the final four years ago. Ivan Perisic's 87th minute winner also ended Spain's unbeaten run at the tournament that stretched all the way back to 2004.

James scored 41 points, delivering another magnificent performance with no margin for error, Kyrie Irving added 23 and the Cavs sent the finals packing for California by beating the rattled Golden State Warriors 115-101 on Thursday night to even this unpredictable series and force a decisive finale.

Pushing the ‘Restart’ button for the US Open

OAKMONT, Pa. (AP) — Might as well hit the “restart” button on this U.S. Open.

Three swift-moving storms raked Oakmont Country Club and made a hash of Thursday’s first round, sending U.S. Golf Association officials scrambling to get the national championship back on pace. Play is scheduled to resume Friday at 7:30 a.m., meaning all but the nine golfers who completed the first round can expect to play more than 18 holes.

At least the forecast looks like it will cooperate, with warm, dry and mostly sunny conditions predicted.

Dempsey, Zardes lead US into Copa semis

SEATTLE (AP) — Another benchmark for the United States. Another huge goal for Clint Dempsey.

As unlikely as it seemed a few weeks ago, the U.S. is in the semifinals of the Copa America.

Dempsey scored for the third straight game and set up Gyasi Zardes for a tap-in goal, boosting the United States into the Copa America semifinals with a wild 2-1 win over Ecuador on Thursday night.

“Clint is special,” U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann said. “He showed that tonight. He showed that the last couple of weeks. He showed that throughout his entire career.”
