Braves come out on top; victorious after Polson tourney

It was a victorious weekend for the Livingston Braves. The Braves played five games during a tournament in Polson over the holiday weekend, winning every game.

During a windy day in Livingston, the Braves secured the win against Bozeman B on Tuesday at 11-7.

Coach Rich Spallone said the Braves were trying to encourage some of the younger players to pitch as well as try some of the positions they haven’t done before. There were four relief pitchers throughout the game including Tristen Jenkins, who has been playing on the team for a while but wasn’t really a pitcher.

Livingston Braves win two games in Helena

Livingston Braves knocked it out of the park on Friday after playing two back to back games at a tournament in Helena.

The Braves played the Helena Independents and the Bozeman Spikes.

Winning the first game in a blowout score of 12-3 in the fifth inning, the Braves scored seven runs against Helena.

The team blazed ahead in the first inning with four runs and two singles, never losing their momentum throughout the game.

John Becker scored three run-batted-ins in the game and an RBI double in the fifth.

Belgrade bests Braves, score 6-8

Livingston Braves lost another game with a score of 6-8 to the Belgrade Bandits Tuesday, despite the Braves outhitting Belgrade eight to four.

Buck Spallone had a total of four runs batted in on three hits for the Braves. Spallone hit one single in the first inning and a double in the seventh.

Pairing up, Ryan Cigler and Aiden White, of the Bandits, took the lead with three hits and four RBIs.

Cigler scored five runs on an error in the third inning as well as a two-run triple.

Local makes hole-in-one in tournament

In the annual Memorial Day golf tournament at the Livingston Golf Course, a Livingston man made a hole-in-one, winning the tournament.

George Denton, 79, made the hole-in-one on the eighth hole, which is a par 3, from 125 yards. He used a 9 iron, according to a Livingston Golf Course press release. He was witnessed by Steve Howes, George McClennen and Roger Currah.

Denton said Tuesday he golfs about three or four times a week and has participated in the Memorial Day Tournament almost every year since it began nearly 20 years ago.

Rangers place at state track

Park High competed in the Class A State Track Tournament Friday and Saturday in Bozeman, with four athletes making All-State.

Colin Marks, Madison Patrick, Kendyl Pierson and Lauren Emter made All-State by placing above sixth place in their events at Bozeman High School over the weekend.

Patrick scored high for her team, taking second in the 400-meter with 1:00.23, being beat out by Pipi Eitel, of Belgrade, at 58.55.

Patrick was also able to place fourth in the 200m at 26.77.

Coleman competes in semifinals, doubles battle for third

Park High Ranger Tennis player Emilee Coleman advanced into the semifinals at the state tennis tournament Thursday, while the Park boys and girls doubles team is vying for third place.

The state competition started at Montana State University Thursday, and then the semifinal and final competition moved to Livingston on Friday, with five students competing. The tournament ends Friday evening.

Park High softball places fourth in divisionals

The Park High Ranger Softball team placed fourth at divisionals in Belgrade over the weekend after winning one game and losing two.

This was the last game of the year for the team because it needed third place in the divisional tournament to move on to the state competition set for this weekend.

The Rangers’ first game was on Friday against Browning, which Park won by a score of 25-0. Pitcher Skylar Ingram got six strikeouts over the short contest of only three innings.
