Recently, several Livingston residents represented in The Livingston Enterprise that the relocation of the Porcupine Lowline Trail #267 in the Crazy Mountains is a “win” for our community. 

Which community do they represent?

Why no discussion about future management of the Crazies?

There have been several recent articles about the controversial trail and access issues in the Crazy Mountains. I tip my hat to those trying to sit down together to resolve them.  

However, I’m reminded of what a friend who is a Native American told me about how resource management issues like this are addressed on tribal land. He said that during these discussions, one chair is left vacant to represent the wildlife that doesn’t have a voice in these decisions. 

They are called sidewalks, not siderides

I am an avid walker on the north side sidewalks and through the underpass. I have been hit by bicycles four times this summer. I certainly feel young children are safer on the sidewalks, but young adults and adults should be in the street. All of those who hit me were old enough to know better. One rider was with her mother and I didn’t even get a “I’m sorry” or “are you alright”.  There is a sign posted on the underpass to walk your bike. Never enforced that I’ve witnessed. They are, after all, called sidewalks, not siderides.

Please do your part to combat climate change by recycling

Climate Change or Global Warming or whatever one wishes to call it is taking up more and more space in our news media. 

There is little disagreement that climate change is occurring; however, the problem is not that the climate is changing or warming. The climate has always changed, but now it is changing much more rapidly than it has in the past. It appears that our actions are one of the main causes for the rapid change.

Trump is destroying our country by dividing us

I don’t dislike Trump because he is a Republican nor would I like him if he were a Democrat. I dislike him because he is everything he calls other people. He is a liar, he is corrupt, he’s not too bright, and he is a brutal bully.

I dislike him because he is destroying our country by dividing us and weakening the agencies that protect and inform us. I dislike him because his tax cuts and his deregulation, his main accomplishments, will be disastrous for our economy and our planet in the long run.

Setting the record straight on The Crazy Mountains Working Group

The Crazy Mountain Stockgrowers Association would like to set the record straight for the general public regarding Erica Lighthiser, and the object of The Crazy Mountains Working Group. But first, let’s celebrate, as a community that ‘The Crazies’ will have an unencumbered and undisputed trail access for Porcupine Trail. This is something that has been needed for a long time, and it is a victory for public lands access for Montanans.

I have always enjoyed reading Joseph Bullington’s stories in the Enterprise, and I was sad to see his time at The Enterprise come to an end. However, his column from last Friday unnecessarily attacked Erica Lighthiser, and by extension the members of the Crazy Mountain Working Group, for attempting to resolve a legal dispute over the status of Trail 267 on the west side of the Crazies.  

AG Fox sending wrong message on rail transportation safety issues

The Members of Yellowstone Bend Citizen Council in Livingston Montana are writing this letter to voice our concern at the request of Montana Attorney General Tim Fox asking the Trump administration to overrule a Washington state law that imposes “safety” restrictions on trains carrying oil from the Northern Plains.
