Fairgrounds ice rink to open on Saturday

The Park County Recreational Rink is set to open Saturday at noon at the Park County Fairgrounds Steer Barn No. 1 after about a weeklong delay due to unseasonably warm weather.

The rink will be open from noon until 6 p.m. on weekends and 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on weekdays, said Steve Van Slyke. He recommends that people bring their own skates, if possible, because of a limited range of sizes among loaner skates. 

East River road accident injures two

A single-car accident on East River Road around 10:30 last night left one person seriously injured and another with minor injuries. 

Dann Babcox, Rural Fire District #1 chief, said the accident caused the road to shut down for about two and a half hours. 

“The car was mangled pretty bad. We had to close the road for a while,” Babcox said.

The road was icy, but it’s unknown if there were any other determining factors in the accident, Babcox said. 

There were two other accidents due to visibility issues last night, Babcox added.

Saturday marks the dawning of a new year and a new era in Montana, one in which adults can legally buy recreational marijuana for the first time.

 Businesses have added cultivation space and employees to meet what’s expected to be a huge demand — so much that some in the industry are concerned it will exhaust the state’s marijuana supply in the first weekend. But that excitement has been tempered by the realities of keeping up with rapidly evolving state rules.

Local bars prepare for festive eve

 It’s New Year’s Eve, and around town local bars and restaurants are planning for a festive night, despite a pesky coronavirus that won’t seem to go away.

 The Owl Lounge is having a martini party and complimentary champagne toast at midnight. The Murray Bar is hosting live music by The Band of Drifters starting at 8 p.m. The Whiskey Creek Saloon and Casino is having a pajama party. The 49er Diner is doing dancing with music provided by a deejay.

The most important thing in my mom’s life was her relationship with her Savior Jesus Christ, followed by her love for my Dad and my brother Ron and myself and all her other  family and friends. Oh how important you all were to her.

My mom was so ordinary, so real — and so unique. She loved growing up in the Shields Valley. Her dad, Bill Adams, died when she was 2 and sister, Alice, 1. In 1929 her mom married Tony Lennamann and she got his kids, Bernard and Bernice, as siblings. Then her mom and Tony had Doris and Frank! What a wonderful time they had!
