Local students to compete in Congressional Art Competition

Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke recently announced 19 students from 12 high schools from across Montana who submitted artwork for the annual Congressional Art Competition. 

Park High School seniors Sarah Strickland and Daniel Miller were named as students who submitted their artwork for the competition.

Youth Dynamics and UM to host trauma care training

Youth Dynamics has partnered with the University of Montana to roll out trauma informed mental health care to children and families across the state.  

Youth Dynamics will bring its staff from over 20 Montanan locations to be trained by Jim Caringi from the University of Montana School of Social Work on how to integrate trauma informed care into daily practices on May 3 and 4 at Chico Hot Springs Resort. The project is part of the University of Montana College of Education and Human Sciences division. 

PHS Chamber Choir performs at music festival

The Park High Chamber Choir recently performed in the District Music Festival at Bozeman High School. 

The choir received Superior (1) ratings from both of their judges on their prepared songs, “Exultate Justi” by Da Viadana, and “Decision” by Scroggins, a Park High Chamber Choir press release said. 

Clayton Oberquell accompanied the choir on piano, with Alexis Tinsley on flute.

• Water to the Livingston Ditch will be turned on Saturday, April 30.

 

• There will be mental heath awareness and suicide prevention event fundraising event, #WeWillListen Dinner, held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 1 at Chico Hot Springs Resort. Unsung heroes

We had an incident at our home yesterday that made it necessary to call the ambulance. Because of where we live, they called both Paradise Valley and Livingston. Both arrived in record time. I was again amazed at the professionalism and knowledge of these guys (I suppose there are women also, but all men were here yesterday). 

Again, I say, “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” to these our very “true unsung heroes.”

The lady at 911 was very helpful and kind as well.

Need information on school election

Several letters have been written asking voters to approve the school levy. No one has written anything against it. On the ballot there are also candidates running for trustees. Yet there is no explanation of who they are, their background and why they want to be on the board. 

Seven vie for four seats on school board

Seven Livingston School District Board candidates, ranging from a fire chief to a budget director to land surveyor, are vying for four open seats in the elementary district in the upcoming May 3 school elections, as the school board also looks to pass $330,000 elementary school levy.

Following are the candidates and brief profiles of each, starting with those running for two seats having two-year terms:

Dann Babcox, Park County Rural Fire District #1 chief, has volunteered with the school district in the past. He has one student in Park High School.

Kindness shown

It was close to 8 p.m. last night when my husband and I completed our checkout at Town and Country and were on our way out of the grocery when we saw a cashier attempting to help a distraught woman with a suitcase. We stopped to ask if we could help. The cashier, who was on the phone attempting to find a taxi, explained that the woman had been abandoned in Livingston. The woman, African-American, was exhausted, in tears and struggling to communicate her needs.
