Ricketts, Smith serve up wins at divisionals

For the Rangers tennis program, the postseason hits keep coming. Park High junior and top-singles player Jakim Ricketts had an answer for everything on the tennis court on Thursday for the Rangers to advance to the finals after defeating No. 3 Ben Kolar of Fergus 6-0, 6-1 in a first round boys tennis match at Montana State University in Bozeman.

Ricketts went on to handle Havre’s No. 2 Trey Hanson 6-2, 6-1 in a quarterfinal match later on Thursday afternoon. 

No. 2 singles player Brendan Johnson won his opening match against No. 3 Jayce Phillipps 6-2, 7-6 (5) for the Rangers. Johnson fell in the following match to Havre’s top-flight singles player Dustin Haas 6-0, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. 

The Golden Eagles’ No. 2 Westten Church defeated the Rangers No. 3 Paul Hayward 6-0, 6-2 and No. 4 Cole Vondra of Park High fell to Fergus’ No. 1 player Danyon Rice, 6-1, 6-0.

For the girls, No. 1 Taylor Walker defeated No. 4 Cassidy Acor of Havre 6-3, 6-2 in the first round for the Lady Rangers. At No. 2, Reagan Smith outlasted Havre’s No. 3 Kadyn Acorn 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 and blew past Belgrade’s No. 1 Kiah Hohenstein 4-6, 6-5, 6-4 in a quarterfinals match to reach the semifinals in the main draw.

In boys top-flight doubles action, Cole Nashan and Morgan Rosberg fell in the opening round to Belgrade’s No. 3 duo Caleb Koltz and Tate Olsen, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. 

No. 2 doubles team Ethan Johnson and Austin Clements won their opening round matchup to advance to the quarterfinals for Park. 

The Central A Divisional Tournament continues on Friday and Saturday at Bozeman High School.
